IEM has made substantial progress this quarter (November 2001 - May 2002) and this trend is expected to continue. The implementation phase – 1 of IEM is now ongoing and numerous activities have been undertaken and are ongoing. In the past quarter IEM has through its and also ESPS programs crossed the 1,000 persons’ trained figure. Since Jan 15th to May 13th 2002, IEM has undertaken 30 activities covering various aspects of its outputs. This in itself is a substantial achievement given the short time period and the challenging times that the country itself is going through.
The future legal framework options for IEM has now been presented to the stakeholders of IEM, and thus, this activity is anticipated to discussed extensively over this quarter with its final conclusion to be expected in the end of quarter 04 (Dec 2002). Along with this, the space requirements for IEM’s expanding activities are also becoming necessary and by the end of this quarter IEM will relocate into new premises so that we can enhance the service being delivered to the target segments.
IEM and also ESPS have now entered a new phase of its target segment beneficiaries, which is the Cottage and Small industries. Programs being implemented in this quarter specifically are targeting this sector as also the issue of “gender” sensitivity in our programs.
